Blanche Hoschedé Monet was born on November 10 1865, in Paris, the second daughter of Ernest and Alice Hoschedé. Ernest was a business man but also an art collector of impressionist paintings. The Hoschedé Monet families moved to Vétheuil. After Alice death they moved to Poissy and then, settled in Giverny in 1883. Ernest died in 1891.
Blanche was immediately fond of Claude Monet. She was eleven when she discovered the art of painting. She spent long hours in the atelier and the field with Claude Monet and also Manet. Claude Monet rented a summer house in Pourville (summer of 1882) and Blanche started to paint next to him. Blanche became Monet’s assistant and pupil.
